Morrison Hershfield was Prime Consultant for this project, the largest consulting assignment awarded to a single consultant by the City of Edmonton’s Asset Management group in 2007. The work included:
- Managing a large multidisciplinary team to deliver a state-of-the-art facility where a strong LEED Silver Certification is targeted
- Producing architectural design for complete operations, vehicle maintenance and administrative support services
- Providing energy efficient building envelope design to minimize thermal loss and the use of alternative power sources such as Solar Wall to preheat make-up air
- Producing mechanical design including innovative HVAC systems for reduced energy consumption and maximum indoor air quality in a very demanding 250 diesel bus storage and maintenance facility where occupant health and safety was of primary importance. Also included were plumbing and heating systems that incorporated the most efficient use of energy and maximized the recycling of rainwater from the massive area of roof over the 25 000 m2 garage
- Providing overall project management systems to deliver the project on time and within budget in a extremely over stimulated construction industry
- Providing architectural, building envelope, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, fire and life safety, code review, and LEED consulting services
Morrison Hershfield brought superior integration skills to the multidisciplinary team, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical and civil engineering to meet a demanding budget and schedule for the opening of the facility on time and within the City’s financial constraints. The demands of multiple users and stakeholders were managed to achieve a functional and energy efficient facility.
