Utikuma Lake Collector Road
Utikuma Lake Collector Road Morrison Hershfield
This project, undertaken for the Whitefish Lake Indian Band, involved two kilometres of gravel surface road and a 15m bridge across the Utikuma River.  Due to adverse soil conditions, the road was constructed using tensar geotechnical grid reinforcement.  For the bridge, Morrison Hershfield designed the abutments, wing walls and erosion protection and utilized a prefabricated bridge deck.

Morrison Hershfield provided design, general engineering and construction management services for the construction of the access road and bridge.

Services included:

  • Route selection
  • Conceptual design
  • Detail construction design
  • Construction management
  • Supervising Band personnel construction of the road

As a result of this project and the method of using Band forces to build the new all-weather access road, Band members gained experience in heavy civil construction and equipment operation.
