Morrison Hershfield has extensive experience with major educational institution facilities management planning, and considerable extensive experience in management of data from multi-system building information audits.
The University of Alberta was concerned about its aging building portfolio and its ability to fund renewal activity over the next 20 years in an environment of decreasing public funding. Morrison Hershfield worked with the University of Alberta over a five-year period examining the University’s renewals funding needs and providing a framework for gathering, organizing and rationalizing its funding needs. This allowed the University to effectively present its renewals funding requirements to funding agencies.
The project examined and presented various funding scenarios, which allowed the University to reduce its deferred maintenance backlog and return to a more balanced funding versus renewal needs profile. Morrison Hershfield assisted the University of Alberta to achieve positive results in competing for funding with 19 other post secondary institutions in the Province of Alberta.
