University Campus Master Plan Morrison Hershfield
Morrison Hershfield was retained by the University of Calgary as part of the Sasaki Associates Inc. team to provide transportation planning and traffic engineering services related to the development of the West Campus Lands.  The University planned to expand the student population by 7,000 people with a corresponding increase in staff and faculty.

Morrison Hershfield undertook the following services:

  • Conducted an assessment of the existing traffic conditions on the site including a reconnaissance and inventory of the University’s surrounding roadway system
  • Took digital photographs of volume counts, reviewed accident statistics that included reviewing of existing parking arrangements
  • Conducted highway capacity analyses to evaluate performance at key intersections on the site
  • Estimated trip generations and distributions based on the future planning of the expanded campus

Innovative ideas of development and the creation of a University campus village focused on activities within the campus environment that lead reduction of vehicle trips, thus minimizing the need for extensive roadway improvements and widening.

Morrison Hershfield worked with a team of professionals including planners, architects, and real estate consultants to come up with an integrated solution that was most beneficial to the University.
