Morrison Hershfield Transit System Detailed Design Build Env Mgmt Planning

The new official plan for the City of Toronto ON recommends implementing transit services in exclusive rights-of-way in a number of “higher-order transit corridors”.  The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and the City completed a detailed study to find the best way of providing a much faster connection and more reliable surface transit connection between the Downsview Subway Station and Steeles Avenue, through York University, to build up ridership in this corridor in advance of a subway.

We were retained by the TTC to complete an Environmental Management Plan, which is a documentation of the development of the project specific environmental compliance and implementation plans.

The primary project objective is to improve the operation of the existing express bus service to York University and to accommodate York Region Transit and GO Transit plans to begin operating higher-quality, express bus service between Vaughan and the Downsview Subway Station.   This project would create bus-only lanes between Downsview Subway Station and York University, with a partial connection to York Region’s proposed bus terminal and commuter parking lot.

Our environmental team ensured through their environmental management plan that the conditions of Environmental Assessment approval were carried forward during design and construction and that regulatory commitments were complied with.
