Trans Canada Highway Rehabilitation Morrison Hershfield
This project included the pavement rehabilitation of the Trans Canada Highway (Highway 1:16 and 1:18) between Bassano and Brooks AB.   The existing roadway surface exhibited significant distress with major transverse cracks.  Significant pre-overlay repairs were required.

This was a trial project for the “Glasgrid” fiberglass road reinforcement mesh product.   On portions of the highway cracks were repaired using the mill and fill procedure.  On other portions “Glasgrid” was used, and on certain portions no pre-overlay repairs were conducted to act as control sections.  This project will enable comparisons of the effectiveness of different crack repair treatments.

Tasks included in the improvements are:

  • Asphalt concrete overlay
  • Transverse crack repair – “Glasgrid” trial project
  • Intersection treatment
  • Side sloping
  • Culvert extensions and repairs

Morrison Hershfield's role included:

  • Preliminary engineering
  • Preparation of detailed design
  • Tender package preparation
  • Construction supervision
  • Contract administration
  • Post construction

Morrison Hershfield prepared a highly effective design and tender package for this fast-tracked project.  Our experienced field personnel ensured delivery of an excellent final product.
