Thin Film Solar Generation Plant
Thin solar panels
In keeping with the City of Toronto’s green initiative, as part of the re-roofing project at F.J. Horgan Water Treatment Plant, Morrison Hershfield designed a 100 kW thin-film solar generation plant to be installed on the facility’s Filter Building.

The system consists of 126 Solar Integrated S1744 photovoltaic modules (roughly 200 square feet in size) which adhere directly to the PVC roofing membrane.  Each module produces a peak of 744 W DC.  The solar modules are connected via several junction boxes to a 100 kW inverter assembly located in the electrical room of the facility’s Filter Building.  Power generated by the system is paralleled with utility power to feed one MCC unit located in the electrical room.

Through the Ontario Power Authority’s Standard Offer Program, a rebate of 42 cents per kWh will be offered to F.J. Horgan for power generated by the Solar PV System.
