Road Access at Lester B. Pearson International Airport
Road Access at Lester B Pearson International Airport Morrison Hershfield

The Greater Toronto Airport Authority (GTAA) required new road access to meet the needs of travellers and workers at Canada's busiest airport.  By the year 2020, the number of travellers expected to pass through the Lester B. Pearson International Airport's gates is 50 million annually.

This assignment entailed the contract administration of five out of fourteen contracts planned by GTAA over three years to redevelop road access in and around the new terminal development.

Morrison Hershfield administered five contracts to bring about road access improvements.  The contracts were the new out-bound collector system for Hwy 409, including the bridge structure for a core collector transfer, retaining walls, highmast illumination, new and/or revised ramp alignments at Airport Road, Viscount Road and Hwy 427 south bound including an out-side widening of Hwy 427 south bound to Fasken Drive, widening of Viscount Road and a new stormwater management facility and the T3 frontage roads/ramps.

In this complicated and challenging assignment, Morrison Hershfield’s substantial experience in Contract Administration was a key factor in the success of meeting the project schedule and coordination demands.

A later project involved the egress roads and parking garage interface, including twelve bridge structures, roads and other ancillary works that tie into the new terminal.  The overall construction value administered by Morrison Hershfield was approximately $100 million.
