AECL retained the services of Morrison Hershfield to conduct a fire risk analysis and an emergency response assessment of Canada’s nuclear generating stations, including:
- Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station, NB
- Pickering Nuclear Generating Station, ON
- Gentilly Nuclear Generating Station, QC
- Whiteshell Nuclear Generating Station, MB
As part of our role, we:
- Identified a conformance baseline for fire protection at nuclear generating stations
- Assessed the risk to nuclear and life safety from non-compliance to applicable codes
- Validated the fire prevention measures based upon the risks, fire load and operational procedures
- Assessed the operational readiness of the in-house emergency response team by conducting emergency exercises
- Validated the Mutual Aid municipal fire department response
- Evaluated the adequacy of water supply to meet fire systems and manual fire fighting requirements
