Morrison Hershfield provided the detailed structural, mechanical and electrical engineering design required for the construction of a 34,000 sq. ft. addition to an existing pulp storage warehouse. The design included the use of a pre-engineered metal building, concrete foundation and floor slab, a sprinkler system, steam heating system, and interior and exterior lighting systems. Detailed construction cost estimates were prepared at various stages of the design to maintain overall construction costs within a very tight budget.
The project also included running a rail spur through the building, installing a wood retaining wall structure along the centre line of the building, and providing overhead doors and control systems to facilitate material handling requirements.
The services for the new building were tied into those of the existing plant, thus saving costs and simplifying overall plant control systems.
