Police Headquarters Fire Alarm System Replacement
OPP Headquarters, Orillia - Fire Alarm System Replacement

This fire alarm system replacement project was for a large building with high security requirements and procedures.  Additionally, this General Headquarters Building operates on a 24 hour, seven-day a week basis. All stakeholders (including the building owner, the tenant, the building managerand the City of Orillia Fire Department) were kept informed of study progress and their comments were obtained during the design review meetings.

The Ontario Provincial Police General Headquarters Building is comprised of three 4-story atrium blocks arranged in a semi circle and sharing a glass enclosed concourse, with a total floor area of 950,000 sq ft. In addition to the main building, there is a heliport building and a canine building on site. The General Headquarters houses the Forensic Medical Labs that service central Ontario. Apart from the high security areas, critical facilities and offices, the main building contains a daycare centre, a museum, a library and a gift shop.

Morrison Hershfield provided a Fire Alarm System Report , identifying the condition of the existing outdated system and the problems associated with keeping the old system. Based on the recommendations of this report, the Ontario Realty Corporation prepared a Request for Proposals for consulting engineering services regarding the design and contract administration of a new fire alarm system.

We were awarded the contract and provided a design brief and prepared design drawings, technical specifications and tender documents for the fire alarm system replacement. The total construction cost is estimated to be $1,100,000.
