Central Utility Plant and Cooling Tower Upgrade Project
University of Guelph Central Utility Plant and Cooling Tower Upgrade Project

Insufficient cooling tower capacity in relation to existing chillers, combined with the University of Guelph's anticipated growth plans and the pending opening of new campus buildings, necessitated the expansion of the existing 8,000 Ton central cooling facility and provision of additional cooling tower and chiller capacity.

At the request of the University, Morrison Hershfield carried out a detailed feasibility study in advance of the detailed design and construction services being conducted for the expansion of the existing central cooling plant facility.

Partnering workshops with University stakeholders led to the timely selection of the addition of six cooling towers and one new 2,000 ton chiller.  This expansion was achieved by an addition to the existing CUP building, with associated renovations/upgrades within the existing CUP.

Morrison Hershfield worked closely with project stakeholders within an accelerated schedule as early completion of studies and detailed design were critical to the ongoing operations of the University.
