Masonry Review for High School
Western Canada High School, Alberta
Morrison Hershfield was contacted to review the masonry after a concrete window sill block fell from the wall of Western Canada High School in Alberta.  The initial visit was followed up with the complete review of the exterior masonry on this historic building.  The resulting report provided recommendations for rehabilitation that took into account the historic nature of the building, the building envelope deficiencies that caused the deterioration, and the structural implications of modifications to the wall.
We were able to respond quickly to the request from the Calgary Board of Education to review the building and provide an assessment of the risk of additional portions of the building falling from the walls.  We applied expertise in both structural engineering and building science to assess the condition of the exterior masonry wall system, identify the causes of deterioration and make recommendations for rehabilitation.
