Liquid Gas Distribution Center
Liquid Gas Distribution Center
Rapid expansion of the oil industry within the Edmonton area resulted in the existing Air Liquide Distribution Center not having the capacity to accommodate current and potential business activity.  Morrison Hershfield was retained to act as their engineering consultant for the design and project management of their new multi-million dollar regional distribution centre, located in the Strathmoor Industrial Park, Sherwood Park, AB.

The project encompassed all the civil site work development to accommodate the new building, as well as roads and parking areas for 75 trailers (liquid gas storage tankers) and 20 tractors. The project also included reconstruction of the Strathcona County access road to the site.

The two storey building (a total floor area of approximately 2800 square meters) was designed to accommodate an administrative staff of 20 people, and a vehicle maintenance staff of 10 people per shift. The building included such features as locker and shower rooms, a recessed service bay pit, floor trenches complete with two compartment sumps, two 3 ton overhead bridge cranes, a wash bay, a tire storage area, lube systems, compressed air systems, and an explosion proof canopy area for the removal of hydrogen from the trailers.

The two storey office component of the building was designed to be constructed with masonry block, with a combination of decorative brick facing and metal cladding on the exterior finish. The higher vehicle maintenance portion of the building was designed to be constructed as a steel frame structure, with metal cladding and brick finishes to match the office area of the building.

This new distribution facility will enable Air Liquide to consolidate some of their operations, as well as provide adequate space to meet their anticipated needs for the next several years.
