This project provided an opportunity to introduce best practices into an environment that had been living with “legacy” conditions for many years. Stakeholders were encouraged to embrace flexibility, leapfrogging into forward-looking solutions that incorporated current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP).
Morrison Hershfield's design team introduced controlled access corridors to segregate public and lab circulation, work space modules using movable benches that could easily accommodate new equipment and lab functions over time. Utility service lines were distributed along the ceiling within purpose made linear bulkheads (not within the benches). This allows transitions between dry/wet functions using overhead connections. Flexibility was achieved with floor mounted benches, casework, and shelving all sitting on continuous seamless flooring. Our approach applied best practices for health/safety, technology, growth and change within a laboratory environment, at a cost-effective capital cost.
Morrison Hershfield developed an innovative approach to reposition bench-mounted service outlets (e.g. gas outlets) without resorting to a construction project. Our design team developed secure outlets using simple screw-clamp mountings. A national vendor embraced the idea and manufactured the fitting which provided the freedom to adjust or remove these fitments with a twist of a knob.
