Kahanoff Centre Expansion
Kahanoff Center Expansion Morrison Hershfield

The existing Kahanoff Centre located within the Beltline district of Calgary AB proposed to develop the parcels of land to the south and east of their existing office tower complex, with a mixture of 30 plus storey residential towers, commercial sites and additional conference center venues.  These lands are considered “brownfield” as prior land uses ranged from R-1 to C-1.  Demolition and removal of the existing tenant structures must be completed prior to the construction of the proposed residential towers.

Morrison Hershfield was retained by Westcorp Properties Inc. to provide professional engineering consulting services for the Kahanoff expansion, by means of completing the civil engineering servicing design for the shallow and deep utilities, garbage collection and internal access layout.

These services were rendered in conjunction with extensive consultation of the relevant stakeholders, including the shallow utility companies and various business units within the City of Calgary.  Value added services included providing recommendations on “green” construction in order that the development may be eligible for certification with the LEEDTM Green Building Council.

Engineering servicing drawings were then produced and furnished to the developer in support of their application to the city for a development permit.

Morrison Hershfield's services included:

  • Review of existing deep and shallow utilities
  • Provision of engineering consulting services for servicing of proposed residential condominium towers and commercial sites
  • Provision of engineering servicing drawings in support of development permit application to the  city
  • LEEDTM and Build GreenTM  certification
