Jet Fuel Storage Fire Protection
Norman Manley Airport Jet Fuel Storage

The Norman Manley International Airport in Jamaica underwent a major expansion to satisfy anticipated air traffic to this popular destination.  As a result, the capacity of the jet fuel storage facility needed to be increased.  Existing underground fuel storage tanks were decommissioned and a new above ground storage tank was added.  And, to offset a potential disaster that would have traffic implications on all International Airports, a foam fire fighting system was added.  The project value was approximately $2 million.

Morrison Hershfield was retained for this assignment based on its excellent reputation in fire protection, life safety and airport services.  This fast tracked installation featured extensive collaboration between the contractor, the equipment supplier and Morrison Hershfield to avoid any disruption to the airport.

Morrison Hershfield designed the foam fire fighting system, the fuel oil separation and draw off holding system, and the sea water intake multi-compartment chamber (in lieu of a fire water storage facility).  Morrison Hershfield also provided extensive on-site support to ensure the demonstrated system had complete coverage of the entire storage depot.

Morrison Hershfield was also involved with the design of the main power supply system as well as the airfield lighting system and controls for this airport.
