As a requirement of the Edmonton Fire Department, Jasper House needed emergency power and smoke control measures to maintain a safe egress through the two stairwells open in the event of power failure and or a fire emergency. This project involved the design of two 12000 cfm stairwell pressurization units and a 200-kilowatt emergency power generator installation in the building, plus a new Fire Alarm panel system to meet current building code requirements.
Morrison Hershfield provided the design and tender documents; construction review and commissioning for the upgrade emergency system all effectively coordinated under one source to the building owners. Through the integrated team of mechanical, electrical and structural engineers the project was completed to the satisfaction of the property owners and fire department while the comfort and safety of building occupants was maintained at all times.
