Integral Boiler Project
Integral Boiler Project, Edmonton Garrison
At the Edmonton Garrison,  heat was supplied to the older buildings through a central steam plant.  As the base modernized, and the buildings serviced by this plant became fewer, a decision was made to decommission the steam plant and convert the buildings serviced by the plant to stand-alone boiler systems.

The first phase of this project was the demolition of existing heating systems in each of the buildings.  This included a sizeable amount of asbestos removal.  The mechanical rooms were prepared to accommodate the new mechanical equipment.  In those buildings where the existing rooms were not sufficiently large, annexes were added on to the buildings.

The boilers that were installed consisted of new and existing boilers that had been relocated.  Some of the existing boilers had been stored for some time making their operating condition unknown.  This posed a challenge in making the boilers operational and integrating them into the new control and existing heat distribution systems.

Morrison Hershfield was able to bring to the client a complete package of mechanical, electrical, architectural and fire protection engineering services all under one roof.  Extensive expertise in retrofit design of mechanical equipment and buildings allowed the client to utilize existing boilers and facilities thereby reducing capital costs.
