Insulation Plant Engineering Services

During the past several years, Morrison Hershfield has provided ongoing engineering services for a variety of projects at the Owens Corning plant at Edmonton AB.  Owens Corning manufactures insulation from raw materials, then stores and distributes its products to a large clientele base.

While the number of projects we have completed is relatively extensive, a few representative projects are listed below to illustrate our involvement:

  • Building enclosure for sewage treatment plant
  • Scrubber unit platform system, complete with ducting and tank supports, monorails, a motor/fan assembly and a 17m high roof-mounted stack
  • Design of a truck loading building
  • Cooling tower relocation and new roof mounted support system
  • Tank containment to provide enclosure areas for tanks containing lubricating oil, phenol formaldehyde resin, diesel fuel, aqua ammonia, and wash water
  • Weather enclosure structure for a roof mounted batch feeder
  • Roof drainage modifications
  • Binder room modifications, including new support structures for tanks
  • Load analysis and rating for plant monorails
  • Furnace area structural modifications, including installation of new monorails
  • Exterior covered enclosures and concrete aprons at loading bays
  • Structural design for installation of a major loose fill insulation process train, including settling basins, service platforms, conveyor systems, furnace/forehearth modifications, penthouse enclosures, cooling towers, cyclones, fans, etc. (capital cost $10.0 M U.S. dollars)
