The sustainable building is aligned on an east-west axis for maximum sun exposure and is 21% more energy efficient and 23% less expensive to operate than a standard hotel. The design incorporates cutting-edge, energy efficient green technology, such as Otis Regenerative elevators. Also installed is a variable-refrigerant-flow-zoning (VRF) heating and air conditioning system from Mitsubishi Electric and energy recovery units to maximize HVAC operations and provide far superior air quality within the hotel. The use of grass grid pavers and light colored traffic coatings on parking surfaces, along with having one-third of the parking spaces under cover and a metal roof with a high SRI rating to reflect sun’s rays back into atmosphere, reduces the heat island effect of the property.
The hotel features 130 state-of-the-art eco-luxury guestrooms along with an outdoor garden lounge, art gallery and an adjacent music venue.
With Morrison Hershfield serving as the sole building envelope design consultant many pivotal features were added to ensure the desired efficiency levels. The exterior cladding includes fiber cement panel and cultured stone. A low-slope membrane roof and pitched metal roofing were added to the four-story structure. The design also features an air barrier system to reduce energy costs by controlling air leakage. Additionally, the wall assemblies include a fluid applied air and weather barrier system combined with lcynene spray foam installation to ensure maximum insulation. Our team used our vast building envelope design experience to ensure all efficiency goals were achieved.
