Guyana Water Supply and Water Treatment Plant Rehabilitation
Guyana Water Supply Morrison Hershfield

To serve the needs of 160,000 people, the Guyana Water Authority needed to rehabilitate several pumping stations and water treatment plants. Morrison Hershfield was commissioned to prepare preliminary rehabilitation designs for 35 water pumping stations and detailed designs for 10 pumping stations as part of the World Bank funded Water Supply Technical Assistance and Rehabilitation Project.

The pumping stations/facilities had fallen into various states of disrepair over a number of years. We developed a new approach, focused on the rehabilitation of interconnected systems with an emphasis on reducing the overall number of pumping stations and associated operating and maintenance costs.  The final agreed upon design resulted in seven individual systems.

Detailed rehabilitation designs and bidding documents were prepared for the seven water treatment plants, four elevated storage towers, 27 pumping stations and associated interconnecting water transmission mains.
