Durable Low Risk Building Envelope Systems, Revenue Canada

The Revenue Canada Tax Centre located in Surrey, BC is a five-storey cast-in-place concrete framed structure containing 144,000 sq ft of office space.  The building was primarily clad in a curtain wall glazing system with some brick cladding and metal panels located on the ground floor.   The building envelope played a key role in optimizing energy efficiency and sustainability through focusing on air barrier technology principles and durable building materials.

Morrison Hershfield was able to assist the contractor in ensuring that appropriate building envelope systems were used to provide a durable, low-risk building envelope.  The periodic field review assisted in ensuring that the curtain wall system was installed in accordance with the design documents and in identifying and resolving potentially troublesome details from unforeseen conditions.  This was particularly true at the transition between dissimilar materials, which had the potential to compromise the continuity of the air and moisture barrier.
