Detailed Energy Audits and Building Assessment of Ten Municipal Buildings, High Level

Morrison Hershfield conducted a detailed energy audit and building assessment of ten municipal buildings in the Town of High Level, AB.   The diverse selection of buildings included the Museum, Sports Complex & Arena, The Aquatic Centre, Airport Terminal and various other Maintenance and Public Works buildings.

The specific objectives of this project were to:

  • Provide an overview of the existing configuration of each facility, its present condition and the remaining life of its major components
  • Identify cost saving opportunities and priorities for remedial work that should be carried out (repairs, replacement and upgrades to meet cost savings objectives or operational requirements)
  • Identify costs and priorities for energy upgrade recommendations, which are likely to result in energy savings with a potential payback acceptable to the Town of High Level

Components assessed included:

  • HVAC Systems
  • Electrical Systems
  • Building Envelope – Exterior Walls, Windows & Doors
  • Roofing
  • Foundation
  • Superstructure

The implementation of the identified retrofit strategies will lead to reductions in energy use and operating costs relating to electrical power, natural gas and equivalent water and sewer costs.
