We were retained to apply advanced computational fire models to assess the life safety performance of 26 of DND’s existing modular living quarters at bases across Canada.

The project was initiated as a result of separate analysis which showed that the residential buildings were no longer being operated as dwelling units, creating conditions that were not compliant with applicable Codes.
The project involved the application of Fire Dynamic Simulator and CFAST fire models to assess fire spread, smoke development, smoke spread, tenability conditions in egress stairs, and the effects of seven different remediation options including the installation of sprinkler protection, additional smoke detection, additional compartmentation, and new exit stairwells.
