MacLachlan & Mitchell Homes Ltd. required full engineering services to develop their commercial site for tenancy by a restaurant.  Conditions of development set by the City of Edmonton required adjustment of adjacent street facilities as well as work on the site.

Services provided by Morrison Hershfield to develop the site included:

  • Consultations with various City officials to accelerate the approval process
  • Coordination of geotechnical investigations
  • Planning approvals
  • Detailed design drawings
  • Construction specifications
  • Tender call and award
  • Contract administration and quality control during construction
  • Record drawing

The project included the following improvements to the client’s site (a former fill area):

  • 1.3 m excavation of fill over the site and replacement with borrow sand and imported crushed gravel
  • Asphalt paving
  • Storm drainage, water, sewer and power services
  • Curbs bounding the parking spaces
  • Lighting system

In addition, the work carried out on city property included:

  • New and reconstructed sidewalks
  • Relocation of an existing concrete bus shelter pad
  • Relocation of existing catch basins and leads
  • Realignment of existing curb and gutter
  • Pavement grinding and overlay to fit the realigned curb and gutter to the existing pavement 

The site improvements designed by Morrison Hershfield have increased the value of the commercial site and increased leasing income available to the client.
