Nassau is situated in a hurricane zone, which meant that the new terminal had to meet stringent Miami-Dade County requirements for hurricane, missile impact and wind uplift resistance. The modern, eco-friendly building is also subject to a hot and humid climate as well as frequent tropical rain events. These elements required challenging design criteria.
