Building Envelope Review for Designated Heritage Building
Building Envelope Review for Designated Heritage Building, Higginbotham Building, Morrison Hershfield

The J.D. Higginbotham building is a 4-storey office building located in Lethbridge AB.  The building was originally constructed in 1913, with a major addition in 1958.   The original portion of the building is clad with sandstone, while the 1958 addition includes granite panels, brick veneer and stucco cladding systems.  The operators of the building were investigating ways to reduce operating costs and increase energy efficiency in the building.  Since this is a designated Heritage Building, the related restrictions of the designation had to be incorporated into the remediation program.

Morrison Hershfield's expertise in assessing building envelopes was key in developing review and remediation programs that assessed and improved the performance of the building envelope while keeping in mind the historical nature of the building and the resulting limitations on any necessary work.

The investigation included a review of the thermal and air leakage performance of the building envelope.
