Morrison Hershfield was involved as the general contractor’s testing and inspection consultant on this facility, which achieved LEED® Silver Certification. The building exterior is clad mainly with copper, and is complemented by limestone masonry. We reviewed building envelope elements, including air/vapour barrier, copper cladding, roofing, and the expansion joint details at an adjacent building. Morrison Hershfield also reviewed firestopping and fireproofing installations throughout the building.
This building employs an innovative heating and cooling system that passes air through hollow cores in the concrete slabs, and makes use of the slabs’ thermal mass. The project architect required a high level of quality control on the air barrier construction, since the heating and cooling system at the building relies on a tight building envelope. Morrison Hershfield’s periodic site visits and infra-red scans provided building envelope commissioning and validation of design parameters, and assisted with obtaining LEED® certification on the building.
