Building Envelope Renovation for Historical Postal Station Building
Building Envelope Renovation for Historical Postal Station Building, Postal Station K

Postal Station ‘K’, located in downtown Toronto ON, is a designated historical building.   Water penetration into the building prompted an investigation of the building envelope.

The repairs specified by Morrison Hershfield corrected water penetration issues and stabilized the exterior limestone masonry at shelf angles of each floor level.   The result was a repair that improved structural stability, improved water penetration resistance and improved the overall appearance in time for the grand re‑opening of this important retail postal outlet.

Morrison Hershfield was responsible for:

  • Reviewing the building’s exterior cladding, including investigation of water penetration issues through the building envelope
  • Preparing a preliminary report, including recommendations of required remedial work to the building envelope
  • Providing specification design for building envelope renovation
  • Assisting with the tendering process
  • Conducting general construction field review during the building envelope renovation and contractor payment certification
