The EIS looked at the impact of development on existing natural heritage resources including:
- Aquatic habitat ecosystems
- Surface water
- Terrestrial habitat ecosystems
Key to the development of the EIS was the generation of mitigation strategies to address:
- Erosion and sediment controls focused on the prevention of sediments from entering Buckhorn Lake and affecting aquatic habitats
- Protecting fisheries habitat by restricting in-water construction to approved engineering designs that resulted in a benefit to fish habitat
- Preventing the introduction of exotic vegetation
- Maintaining and enhancing existing surface drainage
- Re-using and recycling waste materials onsite
Our environmental team used its multidisciplinary expertise in aquatic and terrestrial investigation, waste management, environmental planning and environmental regulatory approval compliance, to ensure that the Buckhorn Lake Cottage Development project could proceed in compliance with regulatory requirements in an environmental sound manner.
