Assessment of Biodiesel Production from Trucked Liquid Waste
Assessment of Biodiesel Production from Trucked Liquid Waste

A study was conducted for Metro Vancouver in response to diminishing fossil fuel supplies and rising oil prices, as well as the adverse environmental impacts from the use of petroleum fuel.  The factors prompted considerable interest in the research and development of biodiesel fuel.

The feasibility assessment for producing a biodiesel product from liquid wastes that are currently disposed at the region’s wastewater treatment plants was completed.  The wastes assessed include trap grease captured at food establishments, poultry slaughterhouse waste and reduction plant wastes.  The feasibility was confirmed and a literature review, supply and demand assessment, conceptual design, and an energy balance and business case analysis submitted.

Metro Vancouver was provided with an objective and rational study of the proposed venture with defined opportunities and threats as presented by the environment.  Through research collection and our expertise in the field, we estimated the cost of the project in relation to the value to be attained and provided a risk assessment to our client.  The results were readily accepted by the client and stakeholders.
