Aquatic Mapping Along Highways
Morrison Hershfield Aquatic Mapping Along Highways
We were retained by the Ministry of Transportation Ontario to create an interactive database of watercourses along their highways.  The purpose of this mapping assignment was to provide current fisheries data in order to assess the impacts of proposed highway improvements on aquatic resources, and to maintain an inventory of aquatic habitat potentially interacting with the Ministry’s operations.

Our environmental team used its expertise in fisheries research and aquatic ecosystem investigation to identify aquatic habitats along the highways.  This knowledge was combined with our Information Systems expertise to create an interactive database for fisheries data.

An additional benefit of the database is that it allows the Ministry to digitally archive all past and future aquatic habitat data and reports, and link data to specific habitat in the database.
