We reviewed the proposed building envelope systems provided to us by the Design Professional for air barrier performance. Morrison Hershfield recommended an infrared scan ahead of whole building air leakage test as a means of identifying potential discontinuities that may compromise the performance of the air barrier. Air leakage commissioning includes infrared scanning and diagnostic testing. Air leakage testing will be conducted in accordance with ASTM E779 or ASTM E1827. These tests methods measure the volume of air required to maintain building pressurization and provide a measure of air leakage across the building envelope. Morrison Hershfield is responsible for setting up equipment to pressurize the building and measuring off airflow. This test requires extensive preparatory work in terms of masking off or otherwise sealing intentional penetrations such as ventilation intakes and exhausts, combustion exhausts, plumbing vents, etc.
Thermographic imaging of the exterior walls and of the low-slope roof will be conducted. We will provide an infrared test report following the completion of the testing that includes representative infrared images and identifying any suspected air leakage paths.
