The public and private sector is being called upon to find climate change solutions by achieving ambitious reduction targets for greenhouse gas emissions. In North America, approximately 35% of greenhouse gases (GHGs) emitted come from buildings. We work with a variety of customers across different sectors to:
Measure Your Carbon Footprint
Carbon footprinting is all about rigor. Our GHG assessment work is based on the reporting protocols defined under the ISO 14064 standard as adopted by the major North American GHG registries including The Climate Registry (TCR) and the Climate Action Reserve (CAR). However, we go beyond typical carbon counting, using life cycle assessment techniques to identify GHG emissions (sources, sinks and reservoirs) as well as calculation of emission factors (EFs) where published EFs are not available.
Reduce your Carbon Footprint
Our team of engineers understands how to identify, design and implement means to reduce carbon footprint through energy efficiency, renewable energy and switching from carbon-intensive combustion technologies.
Life Cycle Assessment of Carbon Footprint
Since the 1990s, Morrison Hershfield has partnered with the Athena Sustainable Materials Institute in the development and promotion of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Life cycle analysis is an internationally recognized approach to evaluating the environmental impacts of products, processes or operations over their full life cycle. It is widely accepted as the most credible and comprehensive way to assess, compare and report on true environmental impacts. Morrison Hershfield and Athena have worked together to develop groundbreaking LCA software that can calculate embodied energy and material effects (including global warming potential) of transportation and energy production, transfer and use.
To date, we have conducted life cycle analyses and GHG/carbon footprints for over 50 projects in North America spanning 15 years. This experience, as well as our long-term working relationship with Athena and unhindered access to the industry-leading ATHENA® LCA software tools and database, makes us uniquely positioned as a North American leader in carbon footprinting and assessment.
