Page Content Chapter 14 of the International Building Code (IBC) and Chapter 7 of the International Residential Code (IRC) require that exterior walls must be designed with a water-resistive barrier and a means of draining any water that penetrates past the cladding to the exterior of the wall system. Andy will discuss the drainage requirements for cladding in the International Building and Residential Codes and the different interpretations that have been adopted by specific jurisdictions. He will also discuss a means of defining drainage capacity along with an opinion on designing and constructing to these minimum code requirements. He will focus on the base requirements for incorporating a water-restive barrier and means of drainage in the wall cladding system.
