The Morrison Hershfield Commuter Challenge
July 25, 2011

National Environment Week (June 5 to 11, 2011) is celebrated country-wide as a time for grassroots action to help preserve, protect and restore our environment.  This annual event coincides with the United Nations World Environment Day on June 5th.

One of the ways that Morrison Hershfield’s Ottawa office marked the event was a Commuter Challenge.  Modes of travel used by staff to commute to and from the office included rollerblading, cycling, walking, carpooling and transit.  Staff stayed active and helped to keep the air clean.

Locally our firm, with a 30% participation rate, ranked 9th out of 53 companies and was 4th in the amount of fuel saved at 13L per person.  In total Morrison Hershfield participants saved 400L of fuel, burned 50,000 calories and avoided 900 kg of GHG emissions over the week.
