Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine is congratulated for winning a 2007 Kenneth R. Wilson Canadian Business Press Gold Award in the “resources and infrastructure” writing category. Editor Bronwen Parsons wrote the winning article entitled “The Engineering of Golf Courses”. Published in the June-July 2006 issue, the article is focused on how engineers help to reduce the environmental impact of golf courses and manage water use.
Douglas Clark, P.Eng. is one of the sources quoted. As one of Canada's foremost experts in golf course engineering, Doug comments on the need for the engineer’s work to be virtually invisible. Nobody wants to see things like pumping stations in natural golf course settings.
The article also discusses the use of pesticides on golf courses. Morrison Hershfield has developed a protocol specifically to help golf courses deal with the legacy of mercury-based fungicides. While the fungicide Calo-chlor is now banned, there is an accumulation of mercury content in the soils.
