Promoting Energy Efficiencies through Technical Guidance
July 20, 2011
Morrison Hershfield recently provided technical guidance for the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council (NEEC), a non-profit trade association of the energy efficiency industry.  The Council advocates an affordable, energy efficient future for commercial, industrial and residential customers.  NEEC accomplishes this by promoting energy efficient products, serving as the voice of the industry in state and local programs and policy issues, and providing up-to-date information within the industry.

Technical content was provided for two NEEC fact sheets on the 2009 Washington State Energy Code (WSEC).  The Air Barrier Management Fact Sheet outlines WSEC requirements and responsibilities for controlling the infiltration of outside air and exfiltration of conditioned indoor air through the building envelope. If left uncontrolled, air leakages increase building energy usage.

The Solar Gain Management Fact Sheet outlines the purpose of the WSEC Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) requirements and provides a list of code related downloadable technical resources.  When properly managed, solar energy can be used to provide daylighting and heat energy in a building.
