OAA Guild Medal Recipient
April 28, 2010

Morrison Hershfield’s own Sue Clark, M.Arch., LEED AP, Intern Architect has been awarded the Ontario Association of Architects’ Guild Medal for her outstanding Master’s thesis entitled “Cosmographia Metallica”.  The medal is presented to a graduating student (M.Arch) for excellence in architectural design.  Three such medals are awarded each year, one for each accredited school of architecture in Ontario.

The thesis explores the history of metallurgy in human civilization, and focuses in particular on the seven classical metals: gold, silver, copper, iron, tin, lead and mercury.  This research looks at the physical characteristics of the metals, their social and mythological histories, and their architectural usage and relevance.  This research is the basis for the design of seven metal spaces on a barren site in the Sudbury area: seven architectural interventions that work together to heighten the experience of the site.
