Morrison Hershfield is pleased to be a Program Stream Sponsor of the CaGBC National Conference 2010. We have been a major sponsor of the event since it began in 2008. The conference will be held from June 8-10 at the LEED® Platinum certified Vancouver Convention Centre in Vancouver, BC.
This year’s conference, Performance Matters: the Next Generation of Buildings and Communities, features over 60 speakers, including three of Morrison Hershfield’s own experts. Wide ranging topics include GREEN UP: building performance measurements, verification and reporting, LEED® Canada updates and future direction, design construction, case studies of exceptional green buildings, instructional perspectives, and information on new Council programs and tools (including the Living Building Challenge).
Mark Lucuik, P.Eng., LEED AP, will be teaming up with Christopher Simmonds (Christopher Simmonds Architect Inc.) to present a case study in the Economics and Innovation Stream. Their presentation will include a discussion of how LEED® functioned as a tool in designing the new Rideau Valley Conservation Centre and some of the challenges the team faced when pursuing a strong example of sustainable design and construction without an emphasis on LEED®.
Mark will also be one of the leaders for the session titled “LEED®: Big Questions, Straight Answers”, within the Policy and Procedure Stream. This session provides an opportunity to ask questions and get straight, honest answers from a panel of five highly experienced LEED® specialists. The intent of the session is to better communicate information about LEED®, including the assessment process, existing tools, the relationship to the USGBC suite of LEED® tools and the future of LEED®.
Jean-Pierre Mahé, MArch, LEED AP and Ray Eldridge (PCL Constructors Westcoast Inc.) will discuss Canada’s first LEED® Gold Acute Care Hospital and the first LEED® Gold Cancer Treatment Centre - the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre. This case study falls in the Green Practices for New Construction Stream, which emphasizes innovative design and construction practices and technology applications for new buildings. Attendees will learn about designing and building this state of the art facility under a fast-track Public-Private Partnership/design-build contract, including enhanced building envelope field reviews that established the framework for a durable building commissioning plan.
Jamie McKay, P.Eng., LEED AP, will present Building Durability - Building for Today, adapting for tomorrow, a session in the Green Practices for New Construction Stream. Through examples, Jamie will present a sample durability plan and tables, and the logical steps to develop and confidently achieve this credit. To further Morrison Hershfield’s commitment to LEED® community, all attendees will be provided an open source for Durability Plan and Tables.
