On March 31 2011, Mark Lawton, B.A.Sc., P.Eng., Vice President and Senior Building Science Specialist, was awarded a Fellowship with Engineers Canada in recognition of his contributions to advancing the practice of the engineering profession in Canada.
Mark is one of Canada’s recognized leaders in the Building Science field. Areas of particular expertise include building envelope durability, energy conservation methods, HVAC systems, indoor air quality and dealing with mold in buildings. This expertise is applied at all stages of the building process including the setting of requirements for design and the evaluation of building performance in existing buildings.
Education and training have long been a passion. Mark’s activities include drafting and presenting educational seminars and workshops for initiatives such as the R-2000 program; heat recovery ventilator installation training for the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada; and the conservation of envelopes and windows in heritage buildings. He has delivered building science training courses at several colleges and universities. Mark has also been called to develop numerous publications which explain both building code requirements and good building practice to a wide variety of audiences including builders, building owners and other technical specialists.
