Chief Peguis Trail Extension Ahead of Schedule
August 11, 2011
Construction is proceeding well ahead of schedule on the brand new Chief Peguis Trail extension in Winnipeg, MB.  The roadway is scheduled to open as early as November this year, one full year ahead of deadline.  Work began last November.

The four-kilometre divided roadway will provide a direct route from Main Street, across the Kildonan Settlers Bridge to Lagimodiere Boulevard.  It includes three new intersections, an underpass at Rothesay Street and a pedestrian bridge.  When the extension is complete the improved traffic flow, reduced congestion on existing routes as well as the intersection improvements will benefit a growing number of residents.  Additionally, a paved multi-use path will encourage walking, cycling and in-line skating.

Morrison Hershfield is responsible for construction layout and construction management on-site as well as the detailed design for the roadway.  We also designed the pedestrian bridge and developed the Quality Management Plan for the overall project.  Quality audits are taking place as the work progresses.

Our Chief Peguis Trail roadway extension client is the DBF2 Ltd. consortium.  The project is funded through the P3 Canada Fund.  The Federal government has agreed to contribute $25 million and the Manitoba government will redirect $9 million from other projects.

The trail is named after Chief Peguis, who lead his Saulteaux tribe from Sault Ste. Marie to Manitoba’s Red River country in 1790.
