Catherine Karakatsanis Becomes President-Elect of Professional Engineers Ontario

Catherine is well suited for her new role. As a practicing engineer she cares deeply about the profession and the engineer’s obligation to the public. She is committed to strengthening the value and relevance of the profession and the P.Eng. license. In addition to numerous committees, her volunteer activities include:

  • Member, University of Western Ontario Faculty of Engineering Advisory Board, 2007 – present
  • Vice President, Foundation for Education Board, 2005 – present
  • President, Ontario Society of Professional Engineers, 2003 – 2004
  • Ontario Society of Professional Engineers Board, 2001 – 2006

Professional Engineers Ontario licenses Ontario’s 70,000 professional engineers, grants temporary, limited and provisional licenses to practice professional engineering, and authorizes businesses to provide engineering services to the public. It sets standards for and regulates engineering practice. Under the Professional Engineers Act, its statutory mandate is to serve and protect the public interest where engineering is concerned.
