Congratulations go to Jennifer Armstrong, a member of the Transportation Division of Morrison Hershfield Limited, for her noteworthy achievements. In addition to being the Senate Medal Winner at the graduate level in Civil Engineering at Carleton University, Jennifer is the recipient of the 2000 Ontario Ministry of Environment Award of Excellence in the research category. To be eligible for the award, the winner has to take an innovative approach to relating smog and transportation while at the same time make a strong contribution to Ontario's environmental goals.
Jennifer won the award for her Masters of Engineering thesis entitled "Development of a Methodology for Estimating Vehicle Emissions." As part of her research she developed 'emission calculator' software, which will help transportation planners and engineers estimate vehicle emissions in urban areas.
The Award of Excellence was presented by Deputy Minister Stien Lal during the EECO Environment and Energy Conference on January 29, 2001, in Toronto.
