The Ontario Concrete Industry recognizes excellence and innovation through their awards program. Winning projects highlight the innovative use of concrete as a principal construction element and demonstrate creativity in the application of concrete technology.
On behalf of York Region, Morrison Hershfield was Engineer of Record for the award-winning Dufferin Street widening and reconstruction project in Vaughan ON. Dufferin Street is the first project designed and built through the York Region enhanced Streetscaping Policy. The roadway features over 600 metres of raised median planters that include an irrigation and drainage system. The median was built using precast, slip-formed and cast-in-place concrete. A CN Rail underpass was refaced with self-consolidating concrete.
The roadway alignment was set to avoid impact to mature trees and to minimize impact to the Don River. High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes and on-street bicycle lanes are also provided.
In addition to Morrison Hershfield, other project team members are G. O’Connor Consultants Inc. as Architect of Record, Pave-Al Limited as General Contractor, Miller Concrete as Material Supplier, along with Greenstreak and National Concrete Accessories.
