On February 1, 2003, Consulting Engineers Alberta presented Morrison Hershfield with an Award of Merit in the Studies, Software and Special Projects Category, for a study undertaken for the Municipal District of Rocky View.
Morrison Hershfield was retained to prepare water and wastewater master plans that researched and identified infrastructure issues and technical options for the 148 km2 Springbank area. The study provided a long-term solution for the provision of water and wastewater services to 55,000 future residents immediately upstream of the City of Calgary. The study investigated a regional solution that merges 23 water and two wastewater utility systems into singular water and wastewater utilities. Extensive WaterCAD modelling was used for the water system as well as solutions that tied the wastewater system to the City of Calgary. The ultimate solution was derived in close consultation with the Municipal District of Rocky View, Alberta Environment, the Calgary Health Region, and the City of Calgary.
